Nestled high in the tranquil hills of Chiang Mai, Veranda High Resort (part of MGallery by Sofitel collection) provides a contemporary mountain retreat integrated seamlessly within the natural landscape. A scenic forty-minute drive from the airport is required to reach Veranda High Resort. This boutique resort blends modern materials with elements of traditional Thai construction methods. The result: a stunning architectural masterpiece. Veranda High Resort is a beautiful fusion of old and new. Veranda High Resort Chiang Mai Review

Veranda High Resort offers 69 contemporary guestrooms and villas, with minimalist interior dominated by stone and timber highlights. There are six different room categories that all feature an indoor-outdoor flow to the natural surroundings. We stayed in a Valley Deluxe Scenery guestroom, with beautiful views overlooking the tea and rice paddies and the mountains beyond. The room was extremely spacious, featuring an oversized king bed plus a large day bed, open-concept bathroom with huge stone tub, a lovely dressing room and an outdoor deck.

I loved the warmth of the timber furnishings and the hip design of the room. It is the perfect place to relax, unwind and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. The wi-fi connection was not very reliable, so use the opportunity to unplug and just enjoy nature!

For those wanting to indulge a bit more, why not try the Jacuzzi Pavilion (complete with a large private jacuzzi on the balcony); or plunge pool pavilion (with private plunge pool). Interconnecting rooms are available on request. If you want your own private abode in the hills of Chiang Mai, book a stay at the Presidential Pool Villa. Enjoy 420m2 of ultra-luxe living with 2 bedrooms, private study, living room with dining area, kitchen, swimming pool, jacuzzi, outdoor terrace with sun beds and private outdoor tub.

Veranda High Residences are also available within the resort grounds, providing apartment-style living in an adjacent building. Choose between a Comfy Studio, Luxury One Bedroom Suite or Luxury Two Bedroom Suite. The décor of Veranda High Residences is a bit more conventional and not quite as hip and quirky as the resort rooms. The major advantage of the Luxury Suites for those travelling with children is the large living spaces and full size kitchen.

This boutique resort is perfect for a relaxing getaway in the mountains. Laze by the rooftop infinity pool, take a picturesque bicycle ride around the nearby hills or jump on the complimentary shuttle to explore Chiang Mai town.

Veranda High Resort has a stunning infinity pool overlooking the lush mountains. A shallow children’s wading pool is situated adjacent to the infinity pool, so everyone can take a dip and enjoy the views. We experienced the most spectacular sunset from the infinity pool at Veranda High Resort. There is something magical about being in the pool and watching the sun setting over the hills. The sky turned a spectacular colour and the temple up in the hills began to fade away in the distance. I really loved the design and ambience of the infinity pool. My only negative point would be the lack of sun loungers by the pool. If choosing to stay at Veranda High Resort in the cooler months, you may find the pool a bit too cold to swim in.

Kids Club

The Kids Club at Veranda High Resort is available for children between 4 and 12 years of age. There is a daily program, including indoor and outdoor activities such as umbrella painting, fan painting and story time. There is also a mini playground with slide, puppets, musical instruments, a doll house, DVD collection and more. Open daily from 9am to 5pm (charges apply).

A babysitting service is also available by friendly staff at Veranda High Resort.

For those wanting to stay fit while on holiday, Veranda High Resort has a gym with all of the essential cardiovascular and strength-training equipment. Work out while taking in the breathtaking hillside views. Open daily from 6am to 10pm.

Various cultural activities are available at the resort, to immerse you into Thai culture. Learn the art of Thai cooking, basket weaving, flower garland making or fruit carving.

As Veranda High Resort is located up in the hills, a complimentary shuttle bus service is available to transport guests to and from Chiang Mai town centre. This service is available morning and night, allowing guests to experience the vibrant night market of Chiang Mai. Be sure to book your shuttle bus seat in advance.

Veranda High Resort Chiang Mai Review: Rice Paddies and Tea Terrace

The Higher Room is an all-day dining restaurant set above the resort. Choose to dine al fresco while overlooking the infinity pool and valley beyond, or be seated in the contemporary indoor dining room. We ate breakfast in the little booths of the al fresco area. The buffet breakfast had a good range of food and cooking stations for made-to-order eggs and pancakes. The Higher Room also offers a range of international cuisine for lunch-time dining.

Rabiang Cha is a restaurant located in the lower plains of the valley, with views over the rice and tea terraces. The design is unique, with private dining rooms created to resemble traditional northern rice granaries. The dinner menu provided here is a fusion of Lanna Thai cuisine with a modern touch. The food was enjoyable, but you may find the menu a bit dull if staying at Veranda High Resort for more than a few days.

The Lobby Bar allows you to soak up the ambience of the dramatic lobby while enjoying a drink.

Indulge yourself with a signature spa treatment at Veranda Spa. The design of the spa is unique, with an open spa reception and beautiful ponds. As part of the Luxury Escapes package (click here to view), two thirty-minute massages per adult are included – allowing you to relax and soak up the serenity of the mountains.

For those guests simply wanting a quiet place to retreat to, wander down to The Library. This quaint space is designed for a bit of relaxation. Take a seat on the rustic outdoor swings and get lost in a good book.

  • Luxury Escapes is currently offering an amazing package at Veranda High Resort, including a three-course dinner for two, nightly pre-dinner cocktails, spa treatments and more. View the current Luxury Escapes package here.
  • The resort can arrange daily tours and excursions for you on request; but you will find a larger variety of tours at a cheaper price if you head into town and arrange the tours yourself. Note that there may be a surcharge if the tour needs to pick you up from Veranda High Resort (see next tip to avoid this)
  • We chose to stay at Le Meridien Chiang Mai for the first part of our Chiang Mai holiday and did all of our day trips while based here (due to its central location and proximity to various tour operators). We then spent the next few nights at Veranda High Resort to relax, unwind and enjoy the peaceful surroundings of the Chiang Mai mountains
  • Book your seats on the shuttle bus in advance, as places can fill up fast
  • Utilise the golf buggies to get around the resort – it is fun for the kids and makes it easier to get around
